Andy Sonnanstine on the hill for the Jays... Salazar, who somehow hit for the cycle is quickly retired.
Furcal lines a single past the man, the myth, the legend...Russ Branyan and St. Louis strands him there as Andy gets Toronto through 1.

Greinke gets the Game 7 start for STL... Retires Cust, hits Pena and Granderson lines a triple. 1-0 Toronto.
Ruggagino retired, Polanco rips a double, 2-0 Toronto after one.

Toronto goes quietly down and St. Louis, again, gets a runner on in Gomez this time.

Justin Ruggaino keeps Toronto's shutout in tact by a web gem as Markakis took one to the wall.

Top 4... (nothing happened Bottom 3.)

Burrell leads it off with a long double! St. Louis with a RISP with 0 out.

Butler flies out...

Headler Smokes it down the left field line and Ruggiano, again, fauls it in.

Sean Barker, bounced from team to team, delivers with a gapper. 2-1 Toronto as Molina K's to end the inning.

Sonnanstine gets through the bottom of and top of the Cards order no problem, 9-1-2 in order they go.

Carlos Ruiz SMOKES a ball into the gap, but Markakis does what was done unto him- a web gem nominee.

And as always, when a player makes a great defensive play he comes up big...leads off with a double and Butler gets him home.
2-2 into the bottom of the 6th.

Runners on 1st and 2nd two down for the Jays... E5 Headley. Loading them for Ludwick And... he ropes a double JUST out of Markakis' reach. 4-2, the Jays take the lead and strand the last two.

Aaron miles, the scrappy manager favorite of Dorman, gets a pinch hit single, but is stranded at first.

4-2 Bottom 7.

Toronto goes quietly in the 7th.

Furcal leads off with a home run off of Thornton. 4-3 game in the 8th...
Markakis and Burrell go down, Butler hits a longgggg single that should have been a double.

In comes Saito to try to seal the deal.
Headley ropes a ball into the gap, Granderson gloves it, but Ludwick RUNS into him!! Everybody is safe as the ball pops out, runners 2nd and 3rd, 2 down! But Barker K's.

Bottom of the 8th we go...

Curtis Granderson who has really been Toronto's spark plug, grounds out to shout.
Ruggiano K's, two down in the 8th as Greinke has kept the Cards in the game.
Polanco, the always scrappy gamer, lines a single up the middle.

Here comes Mike Koplove to face Miguel Tejada- will this move pay off?
Tejada swings going opposite field...this ball is driven DEEP and OH MY!

HASTA LA VISTA PELOTA!!!
The Jays get TWO HUGE Insurance runs and go up 6-3! Ludwick grounds out to short, but the damage is done and the Sky Dome is ROCKING.

The Cardinals are down to their last three outs against Saito.

Mike Redmond, due up first, flies out easily to right..
Chris Gomez, can he do anything? No, he can't...a quick ground out to Short.

Down to the FINAL out we go...Jeff Salazar who hit for the Cycle in game 6...

Swing and a grounder to the left side of the infield...Tejada, the man providing the big insurance runs for the Jays, ranges to his left up the middle behind second base, scoops up the ball and throws to Pena and that's it...

The Blue Jays storm the field, World Champions at last.

Congratulations Pat, you had the far better team and I had no business being in the World Series. That being said I sure wish you'd have lost this one

Aaron, your team made me sweat it, big sigh of relief there.

Thanks for the congrats, it feels pretty good to win the whole thing after my three previous playoff debacles.

What a roller coaster ride of a year for my squad. Bonds gets blackballed, Smoltz goes down. I lost a 1/3 (Turnbow and Duscherer) of my bullpen to injury and Saito for a couple of months, Branyan goes down for 1/2 the season. Picking up starters off the waiver wire after Contreras, Wakefield and Snell all went on the DL at the same time. A battle down to the final series to get in the playoffs with the Orioles after having a big lead. A game 5 with Oakland in round 1. A magical series against the Yanks in the ALCS and a game 7 after going up 3-0. Sure did enjoy the finish.

Very entertaining, JP. For the first time in a couple of months I was able to go out on a Sat. night, but it made for good reading/amusement when I came home drunk last night.

Congrats Pat.

Looks like the trend continues with a new IBC champ every season.

...and great season Aaron, almost made a miraculous comeback and become the first repeat champ......but alas, it was not to be.
