2025 Draft Discussion

Post by Orioles »

So far my favorite picks (besides Caminiti at 17, of course) are Konnor Griffin at 12, Josuar Gonzalez at 15 and Theo Gillen at 18 (I almost took him one pick before).

Benge was a nice pick. I thought he'd go sooner.

I knew I’d have to go up from 32 to get Gonzalez but I didn’t think it would be that far! Hope he becomes a monster

I would not have traded 1.20 if I thought that Benge would still be there. Oh well.

Personally wouldn't have burned a 1st rounder on a 5'9 guy who "might get to average power" or "looks capable of hitting 15 home runs," in Caldwell, but that's me. I dig the physical freaks like Al Davis did in the NFL, though unlike Al I don't go for guys whose speed is their carrying tool (I'm also not drafting WR and CB). Under 6'0 is an immediate downgrade for me. Drafting actual short guys (say, under 5'10) is absolutely verboten for the O's front office absent special circumstances (though I'll pick them up if they show enough as a pro at some point, of course). Might end up with me missing out on the occasional Altuve or Mookie Betts, but so far it's worked out ok as a draft strategy.

Hence why I couldn’t resist the guy who hit a 550 foot home run in high school and then found the gym this winter in Morlando

When Dan drafts, does he check out players political views?

Great pick. Huge fan of this kid. He was right at/near the top of my board.

Dammit Nils. Kash was my guy. I was hoping he'd slip to 47.

Sorry Dan. Yeah, was down to a few options there.

Who do you want now at 47? I PROMISE I won't take him at 44...

JP fucked me by trading up for Cris Rodriguez at 44. You suck, Starkey.

Bonemer is a monster though, so I ended up doing ok at 47.

Nice pick, Ken. Hyeseong Kim seems like pretty damn good value there. You could end up with the starting 2B for the world champions.

Thanks. His ZiPS weren't great, but the other projection systems liked him and I'm hoping they are right. Plus, I may end up with two Kims up the middle.

Rodriguez was third on my list at 21. I was hoping against hope, but figured there was no way he would slip to me in the second round.

Knew I'd have to jump up to 44 to get him. I was surprised he fell as far as he did.

Boom! There's another pick.

I considered Oakie at 47 and tried to trade into the last 10 picks to take him, but lucky for me he came all the way around.

Good stuff with Oakie. He would likely have been my guy if Carter Johnson went off the board.

So am I really going to have the only two picks of the day, and they took place shortly after 7am?

You made 'em count though, mostly haha. Ben Hess was a total steal there. O'Ferrall is also a baseball player. :|

No seriously though he's a safe, solid, boring pick given the floor and chances are that he's a big-leaguer, which would def be value at this point. Personally though, if I don't see a 70 or 80 elsewhere in the toolshed, 30 power is just a no-go for me.
